Function

Its core function is to measure shaft radial vibration, radial displacement, or relative shaft position (e.g., shaft movement relative to fixed bearings) using the eddy current principle: when energized by a compatible signal conditioner (e.g., Bently Nevada 3300 Series or 1900 Series), it generates an electromagnetic field that interacts with the metallic shaft surface, and changes in the field (caused by shaft movement) are converted into a proportional analog output signal (typically mV/mm) for transmission to upstream monitoring systems. This real-time data enables the detection of early-stage machinery issues such as shaft unbalance, misalignment, bearing wear, or rotor rub—critical for preventing catastrophic equipment failure and minimizing unplanned downtime.
