Epro PR6423, Epro Eddy Current Sensor Manufacturer

Precision Monitoring for High-Performance Rotating Assets

In the demanding environment of power generation and heavy industrial processing, the accuracy of your machinery protection system is only as good as the sensors at the "front line." The Epro PR6423 is a cornerstone of non-contact displacement measurement, specifically engineered for the continuous monitoring of shaft vibration and axial position in critical turbomachinery.

As a specialized manufacturer and global supplier, we provide the Epro PR6423 series to ensure that your steam turbines, gas turbines, and centrifugal compressors operate within safe mechanical tolerances, adhering to the rigorous API 670 standards.

The PR6423 utilizes the inductive eddy current principle to provide a high-resolution window into machine health. By generating an electromagnetic field at the sensor tip, it detects microscopic changes in the distance between the sensor and the rotating shaft. This data is translated into a precise voltage signal that allows reliability engineers to identify issues such as unbalance, misalignment, or bearing wear before they escalate into costly failures.

Technical Specifications and Modular Design

The Epro Eddy Current Sensor PR6423 is recognized for its industry-standard 8 mm tip diameter, which balances physical size with high-fidelity signal capture.

  • Standard Sensitivity: The PR6423 typically provides a sensitivity of 8  V/mm (200 mV/mil), providing a linear output that is highly compatible with the Emerson MMS 6000 and MMS 3000 monitoring racks.

  • Measuring Range: Optimized for a 2 mm displacement range, it is the ideal choice for measuring relative shaft vibration in fluid-film bearings where precision is paramount.

  • Environmental Resilience: These sensors are hermetically sealed and designed to withstand the extreme thermal gradients and high-pressure oil environments found inside turbine bearing housings. With a wide operating temperature range and robust stainless-steel construction, the PR6423 maintains signal integrity where lesser sensors would fail.

  • Flexible Integration: Available in various thread sizes (such as M10 or 3/8-24) and cable lengths, the PR6423 can be customized to fit the specific mechanical footprint of legacy and modern machine trains alike.

Strategic Reliability for Global Industry

Maintaining a consistent supply of the Epro PR6423 is vital for avoiding the "forced obsolescence" of proven machinery protection systems. In 2026, as industrial facilities look to maximize the lifecycle of their capital assets, having immediate access to fully tested, factory-calibrated sensors is a significant operational advantage.

Every PR6423 we supply undergoes rigorous quality control, including frequency response verification and thermal stability testing. By partnering with us, you secure a robust supply chain that reduces Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and ensures your predictive maintenance strategy remains uncompromised.

Epro PR6423 Technical Troubleshooting FAQs

1. What is the standard "Gap Voltage" setting for an Epro PR6423?

For a PR6423 sensor with 8 V/mm sensitivity, the "center" of the linear range is typically reached at a DC gap voltage of 10 VDC. During installation, the sensor should be adjusted until the output voltage is as close to this value as possible to ensure the maximum linear window for vibration measurement.

2. Can I use a PR6423 sensor with a non-Epro signal converter?

While the Epro PR6423 is designed to work seamlessly with Epro/Emerson converters (such as the CON 0x1 series), it is generally compatible with other 8 mm eddy current systems if the oscillator frequency and target material calibration match. However, to maintain API 670 compliance and accuracy, it is always recommended to use the sensor with its matched Epro driver.

3. Why is my PR6423 outputting a "Flat Line" signal in the monitor?

A flat-line signal usually indicates that the sensor is "Bottomed Out" (touching the shaft) or "Far Out" (too far away). If the DC voltage is 1 V or 22 V, the sensor is outside its linear range. Check the physical mounting and use a multimeter to verify the gap voltage at the converter terminals.

4. Does the target material affect the accuracy of the Epro Eddy Current Sensor?

Yes. The PR6423 is factory-calibrated for 4140 steel (VCL 140). If the machine shaft is made of a different material, such as stainless steel or aluminum, the sensitivity (V/mm) will change significantly. In these cases, the system must be recalibrated using a sample of the actual shaft material to ensure accurate readings.

5. How do I identify a failing cable on a PR6423?

Signal "spiking" or erratic vibration readings are often signs of cable degradation or a loose connector. Inspect the coaxial cable for kinks or oil ingress. Use a megohmmeter to check the insulation resistance; any reading below 10 M Omega usually indicates that the cable's shielding has been compromised and the sensor should be replaced.
