The Foxboro FBM201 is a high-performance analog input interface module belonging to Foxboro’s
I/A Series, engineered to acquire and convert continuous DC current signals from industrial field
sensors for integration with distributed control systems (DCS). As a core component of the I/A Series
I/O subsystem, it specializes in processing 0–20 mA DC input signals—commonly used by pressure,
flow, and level transmitters—delivering precise, reliable data to support critical process control.
Key Design & Functional Highlights
8 Isolated Input Channels: Features eight independent, galvanically isolated channels (600 V AC
isolation between channels and ground), preventing cross-talk and protecting circuitry from voltage
transients, a critical advantage in noisy industrial environments.
High Precision & Noise Rejection: Employs sigma-delta analog-to-digital (A/D) conversion per
channel, achieving ±0.03% of span accuracy (with ±50 ppm/°C temperature coefficient) for consistent
measurements. It offers >100 dB common mode rejection and >95 dB normal mode rejection at
50/60 Hz, effectively filtering power-line and process noise.
Flexible Configuration: Supports software-configurable integration periods to optimize signal stability,
with a conversion update rate of 25 ms per channel—balancing real-time responsiveness and noise
suppression.
Rugged & Compact Form: Housed in a durable extruded aluminum enclosure, the module is rated for
Class G3 (harsh) environments per ISA S71.04, operating reliably in temperatures from -20°C to +70°C
and 5–95% non-condensing humidity. Its compact dimensions (102 mm height × 45 mm width × 104
mm depth) enable dense mounting in control cabinets.
Simplified Installation & Maintenance: Mounts on I/A Series modular baseplates (DIN rail or 19-inch
rack-compatible), with termination assemblies (TAs) facilitating field wiring connections. The module
supports hot-swapping—removal/replacement without disconnecting field or power/communication
cables—minimizing downtime.
Redundant Communication: Integrates with the I/A Series’ redundant 2 Mbps fieldbus, automatically
switching to the active path (A or B) if one path fails, ensuring uninterrupted data transmission to
Control Processors (FCP) or Fieldbus Communication Modules (FCM).
