Bently Nevada 3300/46 Ramp Differential Expansion Monitor - Technical Overview
1. Product Introduction
The 3300/46 Ramp Differential Expansion Monitor is a specialized solution from Bently Nevada’s Asset Condition Monitoring portfolio, designed to address differential expansion measurement challenges in large-scale industrial machinery. It enables extended monitoring ranges using ramp surface targets, making it critical for detecting rotor-casing misalignment and preventing catastrophic contact in machines where conventional probe mounting or range limitations pose challenges.

2. Core Functionalities
2.1 Measurement Principle
Ramp Surface Targets: Uses two proximity probes to observe ramp surfaces on the rotor. This design extends the monitoring range beyond the linear limits of standard transducers, ideal for extremely large machines.
Differential Expansion Monitoring: Measures the magnitude and direction of differential expansion between the rotor and casing, a key indicator of thermal or mechanical imbalance in large equipment.
2.2 Alarming & Visualization
LCD Display: Real-time visualization of differential expansion magnitude and direction.
Four Alarm Setpoints: Configurable for two "over" and two "under" expansion conditions, enabling proactive alerts for abnormal motion.
3. Application Suitability
Ideal for large industrial machines (e.g., steam turbines, heavy-duty generators) where:
Conventional proximity probes lack sufficient linear range or convenient mounting locations.
Machine size requires monitoring ranges beyond the limits of standard transducers.
Traditional collar-based measurement methods are not feasible.
4. Key Benefits
Extended Range with Smaller Transducers: Leverages ramp surface targets to achieve increased monitoring ranges, eliminating the need for oversized proximity probes.
Flexible Mounting: Ramp surface design provides added flexibility in transducer placement, accommodating complex machine geometries.
Early Fault Detection: Identifies differential expansion anomalies (e.g., uneven thermal growth, mechanical misalignment) before they escalate to rotor-casing rubs.
Configurable Alarms: Four setpoints (two over, two under) enable tiered warning systems for operational flexibility.
