Installation & Operation Guidelines for Woodward 505 Digital Governor
This document outlines critical installation, wiring, and safety requirements for the Woodward 505 Digital Governor to ensure compliance with hazardous location standards and reliable operation.
1. Hazardous & Location Compliance
The 505 governor is certified for specific hazardous and non-hazardous environments, with valid certifications only applying to units marked with official certification identification:
North American Standards: Suitable for Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D locations, or non-hazardous locations.
European Standards: Compliant with EN60079-15 (Electrical apparatus for explosive atmospheres – Type of protection ‘n’), suitable for Zone 2, Group II (Group IIC) environments.
2. Wiring Requirements
2.1 Wire Specifications
Use stranded copper wire for all field wiring.
Wire must have a temperature rating of at least 75 °C if the expected operating ambient temperature will exceed 50 °C.
2.2 Wiring Methods
Follow location-specific wiring codes:
North American installations: Adhere to Class I, Division 2 wiring standards.
European installations: Comply with Zone 2 wiring standards.
All wiring must meet the requirements of the local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).
A fixed wiring installation is mandatory (no temporary or detachable wiring).
3. Peripheral Equipment & Safety Components
Ensure all peripheral equipment (e.g., sensors, actuators) is rated for the specific location (hazardous or non-hazardous) where it will be installed.
Install a switch or circuit breaker in the building’s electrical system:
Locate it in close proximity to the 505 governor.
Ensure it is easily accessible to operators for emergency shutdown.
4. Grounding Requirement
Proper grounding is mandatory. Connect the governor to ground using the dedicated input PE (Protective Earth) Terminal to prevent electrical hazards and ensure stable operation.
