IOC4T 200-560-000-016: VM600 Rack Communication Protocol Guide

The IOC4T 200-560-000-016 is an input/output interface card used in Vibro-Meter VM600 rack systems. Most field calls about “communication failure” on this card come down to three issues: wrong address setting, slot mismatch, or worn backplane contacts. The IOC4T is not a standalone communication processor. It works with the VM600 backplane and the rack processor to transfer I/O data between protection/monitoring modules and the external control system.

How the IOC4T Fits into VM600 Rack Communication

The IOC4T is part of the Vibro-Meter VM600 rack architecture. Do not treat it as a separate PLC or fieldbus master. It maps isolated I/O between the rack bus and external terminals. In a typical machinery protection loop:

  • Sensor signals enter through TQ402, TQ412, CA202, or CP515 transducers.

  • IQS450 or IPC704 modules condition those signals.

  • MPC4 or CMC16 cards process protection and monitoring logic.

  • CPUM handles rack-level processing.

  • IOC4T provides isolated I/O transfer to the DCS, PLC, or alarm system.

On VM600 systems, rack communication does not rely on autonegotiation. The DIP switch address on the IOC4T defines the rack node position. CPUM then polls that node. If the address is duplicated, shifted, or set to an unused slot, the card can appear missing even when it has power and LEDs are on.

Address DIP Switch and Backplane Rules

Before removing any IOC4T, record the switch positions. Do not change the DIP switch with rack power on.

Field checks that prevent most communication problems:

Check Item

What to Verify

Address DIP switch

Must match CPUM scan table and slot assignment

Slot position

Install in assigned slot only

Backplane connector

Clean gold fingers; check for debris or scoring

Rack guide wear

Inspect 204-040-100-011 rack guides for insertion resistance

CPUM configuration

Address and channel map must be enabled

Power supply

Rack supply stable; no voltage drop during insertion

If replacing a failed card, set the same address as the old module unless the site is intentionally changing slot assignments. Mark the old switch positions with a photo or handwritten note before removal.

Communication Debug Sequence

Use this order when IOC4T data stops updating or CPUM reports a missing node:

  1. Power off the rack and reseat the IOC4T. Check the backplane connector for oxidation or damaged pins.

  2. Power on and read CPUM fault logs. Note whether the error is “node missing,” “channel fault,” or “configuration mismatch.”

  3. Compare the DIP switch address against the CPUM scan table.

  4. Check CPUM firmware level. Older CPUM firmware may not support later IOC4T firmware versions.

  5. Verify external output loads and field wiring. A shorted load or bad ground can cause isolated output shutdown.

  6. If the fault is intermittent, check shield grounding, unused slot termination, and backplane contact pressure.

If you do not have a spare module, temporarily move the IOC4T to a known-good slot with a test address. This separates a real card fault from a rack or backplane problem.

Version and Replacement Notes

IOC4T modules appear under several part numbers in the field:

  • 200-560-000-016: standard configuration, widely stocked and replaced.

  • 200-560-000-019: digital and analog mixed I/O configuration.

  • 200-560-000-111 / 113 / 114: later firmware or version variants.

Do not assume these are drop-in replacements. Before ordering, confirm:

  • Exact part number from the module label.

  • CPUM firmware version, especially 200-595-067-114 or 200-595-063-314.

  • Rack slot assignment and output load type.

  • Whether the installed CPUM scan supports the replacement version.

A common sourcing mistake is buying a lower-cost cross-reference that fits mechanically but cannot be addressed by the existing CPUM firmware. After any IOC4T replacement, perform channel mapping verification and re-check sensor loops before restoring trip outputs.

Spare Parts and Sourcing Recommendations

For emergency replacement, keep one configured IOC4T on the shelf. Useful accompanying spares include:

  • IOC4T 200-560-000-016

  • CPUM 200-595-067-114

  • MPC4 200-510-017-017 or site-configured protection card

  • IQS450 204-450-000-001/002

  • TQ402 111-402-000-012/013

For Vibration Monitoring spare parts and CPU Module support, confirm stock before the rack is opened.

FAQ

Q1: The IOC4T address is correct, but CPUM still shows no communication. What should I check?
Check the backplane connector, slot guide wear on the 204-040-100-011 rack, and CPUM scan enable. Temporarily test the module in another known-good slot.

Q2: Can I change the IOC4T DIP switch while the rack is powered?
No. Remove rack power first. Changing address switches on a live backplane can corrupt module startup and create false communication faults.

Q3: Is 200-560-000-016 directly replaceable by 200-560-000-111?
Not always. The 111/113/114 variants may require a CPUM firmware update or different address mapping. Confirm the exact CPUM version before ordering a replacement.

Q4: How do I verify field wiring without disturbing the rack?
Use loop diagrams and check output load values, shield grounding, and cable connections. For intermittent faults, inspect EA402 cable shield condition and TQ402 sensor connection integrity.
