T8310
ICS TRIPLEX
1. Module Role & System Integration
The Expander Processor (T8310) resides in the two leftmost processor slots of the expander chassis, acting
as a critical interface between the expander and controller chassis. It enables:
Fault tolerance via HIFT (High Integrity Fault Tolerant) TMR architecture.
Rapid fault identification through comprehensive diagnostics, monitoring, and testing.
Support for standby module configurations, allowing both automatic and manual repair strategies.
2. Physical & Electrical Specifications
Power Supply: Derives internal voltages from dual redundant +24V dc power, supplied via the module
connector from the expander chassis backplane. This redundancy ensures uninterrupted operation even in
the event of a single power path failure.
Mechanical Design: As illustrated in Figure 6-3: Expander Processor, the module features a standardized
form factor for seamless integration into the expander chassis.
3. Communication & Data Transfer
Interconnection: Expander processor modules connect to expander interface modules via the hot link cable
TC-301 and expander interface adaptor unit T8312.
Data Transfer Rate: Achieves a high-speed data transfer rate of 250Mbps, ensuring efficient
communication between the expander and controller subsystems.
4. Status LEDs & Indications
The module’s status LEDs provide granular visibility into operational health and activity, as defined in
Table 6-1: Expander Processor Module LED Indications:
Healthy:
Three LEDs (one per slice) indicate the overall health of each processor slice.
Steady green = Healthy slice.
Flashing red = Fault in the corresponding slice.
Active: Illuminates green when the module is in Active mode.
Standby: Illuminates steady green when the module is in Standby mode.
TxRx (Transmit/Receive):
Three LEDs (one per channel) indicate communications activity on each processor channel.
When active: Green = Receive activity; Red = Transmit activity (appears amber when both occur
simultaneously); Off = No activity or failed channel.
When in standby: No Transmit activity (red LED remains off).
5. Fault Tolerance & Maintenance
HIFT TMR Architecture: The module’s design ensures that single-point faults do not disrupt system
operation, maintaining integrity even as components degrade.
Diagnostics & Repair: Comprehensive monitoring facilitates rapid fault detection, while support for
standby configurations enables both automated failover and manual repair workflows, minimizing
downtime.
