The controller chassis supports multiple mounting configurations to adapt to different industrial environments:
Swing Frame Mounting: Allows for easy access to internal modules by enabling the chassis to swing open,
simplifying maintenance and module replacement.
Fixed Frame Mounting: Provides a stable, stationary installation for scenarios where frequent access is not
required.
Panel (Rear) Mounting: Achievable with the optional panel mounting kit T8380, which includes a pair of
brackets with rear-facing ears. This configuration is ideal for integrating the chassis into custom control panels or
enclosures.
Processor Modules: Up to two TMR (Triple Modular Redundancy) processor modules can be installed, ensuring high availability and fault tolerance.
I/O & Interface Modules: Up to eight I/O or interface modules can be accommodated, supporting a wide range of digital, analog, and communication functionalities.
The IMB backplane is a critical component of the chassis, serving as the electrical backbone:
Electrical Interconnection: It facilitates communication and power distribution between all installed modules.
Data Transfer Performance: The IMB supports a maximum data transfer rate of 150Mbaud, ensuring fast and
reliable data exchange between modules.
Serviceability Note: There are no user-serviceable parts inside the chassis, meaning maintenance or repairs to the
backplane and internal infrastructure should be performed by qualified personnel.
Module slots are structured to support specialized and standard module types, with defined logical numbering for
configuration and management:
TMR Processor Slots: The two left-most slots are triple-width to accommodate TMR processors. The first slot is
designated logical 0, and the adjacent slot is logical 15.
I/O & Interface Slots: The remaining slots (logical 1 to 8, left to right) are used for I/O and interface modules.
These slots are referenced in both the system configuration manager and I/O configuration manager (detailed in
Sections 8 and 9 of the full technical documentation).
To ensure proper and secure installation of modules into the chassis:
Sliding & Engagement: Insert modules by carefully sliding them into their designated slots. Ensure the U-
channels on the top and bottom casings of the module engage with the raised guides on the upper and lower
chassis plates.
Ejector Levers: Each module is equipped with ejector levers that must be used to secure the module within the
chassis, preventing dislodgement and ensuring reliable electrical contact.
Redundant +24Vdc power is supplied to the chassis via dedicated connectors, ensuring uninterrupted operation:
Power Connectors: The 24Vdc input power connectors are located at the rear top of the chassis (see Figure 5-2:
Power Connection). One connector is visible in the top view, and the second is illustrated in the right-hand side
view.
Redundant Power Distribution: Redundant power is distributed to all modules within the chassis through the
backplane, ensuring that a single power supply fault does not disrupt system operation.
