Communications Interface Adapter (T8153) Technical Overview

1. Module Role & Function

The Communications Interface Adapter (T8153) acts as a connectivity hub, providing physical access to 

the communication ports of communications interface and gateway modules. It connects directly to the rear 

of these modules, serving as the interface between the modules and external devices/network infrastructure.

As shown in Figure 5-11: Communication Interface Adapter, the adapter features a robust metallic design 

for industrial environments. It mounts directly to the rear of communications interface or gateway modules, 

ensuring secure and reliable port access.

3. Port Types & Connectivity Options

The adapter offers a diverse range of physical connections to support various communication standards and 

peripherals:

Ethernet Connections:

Two 10Base2 Ethernet connections (supporting coaxial cable networks).

Two 10BaseT connections (for twisted-pair Ethernet networks).

Serial Connections:

Four RS422/485 connections (supporting multi-point, differential serial communications).

Two RS232 connections (for point-to-point serial communications).

Peripheral Connections: Interfaces for gateway peripherals, including keyboard, mouse, and monitor, 

enabling local interaction with gateway modules.
