The horizontal bus driver (HBD) module is a fundamental and indispensable component installed
within the I/O racks of the FSC (Fail-Safe Control) system, serving as a critical bridge for signal
transmission between the Central Part and I/O modules.
Composed of two integral parts, the HBD module comprises a robust electronic unit (model
10100/2/1) and a specialized flatcable—available in three variants (A1, A21, or A22)—each tailored to
distinct system configurations. The vertical bus flatcable, which facilitates data exchange between the
Central Part and the I/O rack, establishes a secure connection to the HBD module through the rear-
mounted connector CN1 (refer to Figure 2 for detailed wiring layout). Meanwhile, a dedicated
flatcable extending from the front of the module links the HBD to the horizontal bus positioned
above the I/O rack, ensuring seamless signal propagation across the rack. Additionally, the address
selection lines of the I/O modules are routed to the back of the horizontal bus(es) via a flatcable
connected to connector CN3, enabling precise addressing and communication with individual I/O
modules.

The combination of 10100/2/1 with flatcable A1 is exclusively utilized for non-redundant I/O
configurations, catering to basic system setups where redundancy is not mandated.
For redundant I/O systems requiring single-rack coverage per HBD, the 10100/2/1 module paired
with flatcable A21 is the preferred choice, ensuring reliable signal transmission for critical redundant
I/O operations.
When redundant I/O configurations demand coverage across two racks per HBD, the 10100/2/1
module integrated with flatcable A22 is employed, optimizing resource utilization while maintaining
redundancy integrity.
Notably, the HBD module supports hot-swapping, allowing for replacement while the system power
remains active. However, it is crucial to note that if the HBD is classified as safety-related—playing a
vital role in safeguarding fail-safe operations—the Central Part will initiate a shutdown to prevent
potential system malfunctions or safety hazards during the replacement process. This design balances
operational flexibility with the stringent safety standards of industrial control systems.

The 10100/2/1 is a horizontal bus driver (HBD) module designed for I/O racks, consisting of an
electronic part (10100/2/1) and a flatcable (A1, A21, or A22). It occupies 4 TE (4 HP) horizontal and 3
HE (3U) vertical rack space, with power requirements of 5 Vdc (35 mA for A1/A21 cables, 65 mA for
A22 cable) and ripple tolerance < 50 mV p-p. The module features a male DIN 41612 Type F
connector with d, b, and z rows used, and its rack address is programmed via jumpers RA0 to RA3 on
compatible backplanes (10314/1/1, 10315/1/1, etc.). The vertical bus flatcable connects to the module
via rear connector CN1, while a front flatcable links it to the I/O rack’s horizontal bus, and I/O
module address selection lines terminate on the horizontal bus back via CN3. It supports hot-
swapping but triggers Central Part shutdown if safety-related, with key coding (module holes: A5/A7;
rack large pins: A5/A7) and compatibility with FSC software ≥ 3.00.
