The Central Processing Unit (CPU) stands as the operational core and command center of each FSC
(Fail-Safe Control) system, orchestrating and regulating all critical system functions—including data
processing, signal routing, device coordination, logic execution, and real-time monitoring of
operational status—to ensure reliable and fail-safe performance in industrial control scenarios.
A prominent front-panel key switch is integrated into the CPU module, serving as a dedicated
hardware-based mechanism for processor reset. This switch features two distinct, clearly identifiable
positions that dictate the module’s operational state:
Vertical position: Activates the "Running" mode, where the CPU executes preconfigured control logic,
processes input signals from field devices, and transmits output commands to maintain system
operation as intended.
Horizontal position: Engages the "Stop" mode, which triggers an immediate hardware reset of the
CPU. This function is critical for troubleshooting, system reconfiguration, or emergency shutdowns,
ensuring the processor restarts with a clean state to resolve anomalies or implement configuration
updates.
To preserve critical data stored in the CPU’s RAM (Random Access Memory) during power
interruptions or system outages, the module is equipped with robust battery backup circuitry. This
backup power supply is sourced from compatible auxiliary modules, specifically the Diagnostic and
Battery Module (DBM) with model numbers 10006/1/1 or 10006/2/. (and related variants), or the
Single Bus Driver (SBD) model 10007/1/1. The battery backup ensures uninterrupted retention of
configuration parameters, operational logs, and real-time process data, preventing data loss and
enabling rapid system recovery once primary power is restored—thereby enhancing the FSC
system’s resilience and minimizing downtime in mission-critical applications.
Memory
The CPU module has the following on-board memory:
• 128 Kbytes of RAM for the system and application variables (all
I/O, markers, counters, timers and up to 7 Kbytes for registers), and
• 128 Kbytes of RAM that can be used as application RAM
(depending on jumper positions).
The available 128 Kbytes of application RAM makes it possible to run
small application programs in RAM, without additional memory
circuits in the dual in-line (DIL) sockets.
A separate memory print (10002/A/1) is placed in the connector strips
on the 10002/1/2 module. The 10002/A/1 module accommodates
surface-mounted EPROMs that contain the system program, and has
four sockets which offer space for the application program memory
(EPROMs or RAM).
Reprogramming the surface-mounted EPROMs is possible using the
07170/1/1 FSC EPROM programmer with a 07170/A/1 adapter
module. The EPROMs are erased by placing the 10002/A/1 module in
an EPROM eraser (UV light source).

Hardware & Mechanical Details
Module Composition: Consists of the main CPU module (10002/1/2) and a separate memory print
(10002/A/1) that houses surface-mounted system EPROMs and four sockets for application memory
(EPROMs or RAM). The 10002/A/1 module is secured via connector strips on the main CPU board.
Physical Dimensions: The 10002/A/1 memory print measures 84 x 54 x 12 mm (3.31 x 2.13 x 0.47 in),
contributing to the module’s overall compact form factor.
Installation Caution: The module must not be removed or replaced while the Central Part power is
active, as this can cause system corruption or hardware damage.
