Overview
The 140CPU11302 is a core central processing unit (CPU) module within Schneider Electric’s
Modicon Quantum Automation Series, tailored for medium-scale industrial control scenarios that
demand reliable logic execution, basic I/O management, and essential networking capabilities. As the
bus master of the Quantum system, it orchestrates data flow and control operations across local,
remote, and distributed I/O architectures, enabling real-time oversight of industrial processes through
programmable logic, timing, sequencing, arithmetic, and coupling functions. It serves as a cost-
effective solution for applications where moderate processing power and scalability balance with
operational efficiency.

Key Functional & Design Features
Processing and Memory Capacity
Equipped with 256 kB SRAM for data storage and supports a maximum IEC program size of 109 kB
(requires IEC-only Executive firmware). It offers 8 k words of 984 ladder logic capacity, with reference
capabilities for up to 8192 discrete inputs/outputs and 9999 registers—sufficient for medium-
complexity control tasks such as process sequencing and basic machine automation.
I/O Management Capabilities
Local I/O: Handles up to 64 input words and 64 output words, with support for 2 I/O racks (via
backplane expander) to accommodate additional I/O modules.
Remote I/O (RIO): Supports up to 31 remote drops, each with 64 input/output words, enabling
control of geographically distributed equipment via coaxial cabling.
Distributed I/O (DIO): Manages up to 500 input/output words per network (with 30 input/32 output
words per node) over Modbus Plus twisted-pair networks, ideal for decentralized installations.
Communication Interfaces
Features one Modbus (RS-232) serial port and one Modbus Plus (RS-485) network port (both 9-pin D-
shell connectors). It supports bridge mode, allowing a panel device connected to the Modbus port to
access both the local PLC and nodes on the Modbus Plus network. Additionally, it can integrate up to
2 network option modules (NOM, NOE, or MMS) to extend connectivity to Ethernet, Profibus, or other
fieldbuses.
Reliability and Diagnostics
Battery Backup: Includes a 3 V lithium battery (1200 mAh, 10-year shelf life) to preserve RAM data
during power-off, with a typical power-off load current of 5 μA (maximum 110 μA).
Built-in Diagnostics: Performs power-up and runtime checks for RAM integrity, executive firmware
checksum, and user logic validity. Front-panel LEDs (Ready, Run, Modbus, Modbus+, Mem Prt, Bat
Low, Error A) provide real-time status visibility, including battery health and communication errors.
Operational Flexibility
Adjustable Timing: Software-configurable watchdog timer (250 ms default) and logic solve time of
0.3–1.4 ms per k words, ensuring responsive control of time-critical processes.
Parameter Configuration: Front-panel slide switches enable memory write protection and Modbus
port parameter selection (ASCII/RTU/software-configurable modes). Rear-panel rotary switches set
Modbus Plus node and Modbus port addresses (valid range: 1–64).
Industrial Durability
Complies with global industrial standards (UL 508, CSA 22.2-142, CE directives) and operates in harsh
environments: temperature range 0°C–60°C (32°F–140°F), 0–95% non-condensing humidity, and
resistance to vibration (10–57 Hz @ 0.075 mm d.a.; 57–150 Hz @ 1 g) and shock (±15 g peak, 11 ms
half-sine wave).
