The Bently Nevada 3300/65 Dual Probe Monitor combines a Bently Nevada proximity transducer’s
shaft relative displacement signal and a velocity transducer’s casing vibration signal—both installed
on the same machine axis—into a single shaft absolute vibration measurement; designed for fluid
film bearing-equipped machines (e.g., large steam and gas turbines) where substantial shaft vibration
transfers to the casing (with engineering services available to assess machine vibration transmission
characteristics and recommend monitoring systems if uncertain), it provides four key measurements:
shaft relative vibration (proximity probe-based, vs. bearing housing), bearing housing vibration
(seismic, vs. free space), shaft absolute vibration (vector sum of the two), and shaft average radial
position (proximity probe DC gap, vs. bearing clearance).

When using the Bently Nevada 3300/65 Dual Probe Monitor, ensure the proximity transducer and
velocity transducer are strictly installed on the same machine axis—misalignment between the two
will invalidate the vector summation for shaft absolute vibration, leading to inaccurate measurements.
Do not use it for machines without fluid film bearings (e.g., rolling-element bearing equipment), as it
is specifically designed for scenarios where significant shaft vibration transfers to the casing; consult
engineering services first if unsure of your machine’s vibration transmission characteristics. Avoid
installing transducers near electromagnetic interference sources or in environments outside -20°C to
60°C (95% non-condensing humidity), as this degrades signal integrity. Regularly calibrate both
transducers and verify the DC gap measurement accuracy of the proximity probe—drifts here will
distort shaft radial position data. Never bypass alarm circuits linked to critical measurements (e.g.,
shaft absolute vibration), as this eliminates protection against machinery damage from unmonitored
vibration anomalies.
