Bently Nevada 3500 Rack Interface Module (RIM) - Technical Overview
1. Product Introduction
The Rack Interface Module (RIM) is the primary interface for Bently Nevada’s 3500 machinery monitoring rack. It enables configuration, data retrieval, and communication with external systems, serving as a critical hub for asset condition monitoring.

2. Core Functionalities
2.1 Rack Management & Protocol
Proprietary Protocol: Supports Bently Nevada’s proprietary protocol for configuring the 3500 rack and retrieving machinery health data.
Mandatory Slot Placement: Must be installed in slot 1 of the 3500 rack (adjacent to power supplies). One RIM is required per rack.
2.2 Communication Capabilities
External Connectivity: Integrates with Bently Nevada external communication processors, including:
TDxNet
TDIX
DDX
Non-Critical Monitoring Role: The RIM handles rack-wide functions but does not impact the critical monitoring path—ensuring normal operation of the machinery monitoring system remains unaffected.
2.3 TMR (Triple Modular Redundant) Support
For TMR applications, a specialized TMR RIM is required, which adds:
Monitor Channel Comparison: Continuously compares outputs from three redundant monitors.
Error Detection: Flags monitor errors if data deviates beyond configured thresholds, logging events in the System Event List for troubleshooting.
